Release notes
Archive Witness 1.0.6.0
Beta Published October 7, 2026 at 10:23 AM UTC
Improved first-run guidance, large-archive responsiveness, settings, and long-running job visibility.
- Added contextual usage tips that guide first-time users through creating an archive and understanding the main workspace, with independent tips for peer comparison and Checksum tools.
- Added fixed-page browsing, database-backed search, sorting, and detailed column filters so very large archives remain practical to review.
- Made long-running checksum and media results appear in the table view periodically.
- Improved job progress and history: the main workspace stays concise, complete history remains available in a separate paged window, and retained logs are easier to view and locate.
- Added per-archive choices to inherit global checksum, file-scope, content-read, and startup-refresh settings, with clearer controls for overriding those defaults.
- Improved archive registration and catalog preparation for archives containing hundreds of thousands of files, with clearer progress.
- Added clearer prompts and status when configured checksum algorithms are missing, including the option to calculate the missing evidence.
- Improved update reliability, application shutdown, and onboarding reset behavior after reinstall.
- Reduced false media warnings caused by benign FFmpeg duration-estimation and channel-layout messages.
- Improved Checksum tools with clearer color-coded match results and automatic clearing when a different source file is selected.
